Mario Kart Wii Review

Wow, that is the first thing I can say after playing Mario Kart Wii for a couple of hours last night. First off, the game comes with a steering wheel that you put the Wii Mote into to control your kart. It took a few races to get used to the controlling etc but after that I was good to go!

I know I’m going to have to put some time into the game to unlock all the tracks and characters but it is going to be a lot of fun. You have the 50cc, 100cc, and 150cc classes. There are different carts with different speed and handling that you can choose. You can also use cycles which are pretty fun!

Another new deal in Mario Kart Wii is that you can plan online against other people. So if you are getting tired of beating your friends and family, go online and see if you have what it takes to beat the best Mario Kart Wii racers in the world!

If you have played the game, what do you think about it? I give it 10/10 as I haven’t found anything that I don’t like!

I finally picked up a Playstation 3 and so far so good

Well I have finaly picked up the last of the three current consoles.  I received a Playstation 3 last week from one of my sponsors and so far I have really enjoyed it.  I have only been able to play NBA 08 on it so far, and well I still favor the Live series over this one.  Too bad our local rental place didn’t have Live instock.

I really like how light the controllers are with the PS3 compared to the PS2.  The fact that they have no batteries really keeps the weight down.  Charging them with a usb cable is pretty handy as well.

One thing Sony should have did was include a component and HDMI cable.  Sure they might cost ya $5 each, but c’mon now.  There is no need for us a customer to have to go out there and pay for another cable just to get the HD signal.

I’ll be waiting to pick up MLB 08 The Show for my next game.  I think it will be pretty cool, and hopefully I’ll get a few games a week in online!

Mario Party 8 Review for Nintendo Wii

Wow, talk about a wasted game that I thought was actually going to be good on the Nintendo Wii.  We rented Mario Party 8 last week and were very dissapointed.  The gameplay sucked and I don’t even see how a kid could enjoy this game to be honest.  Nintendo has really dropped the ball on the Mario releases for the Wii so far.

I will have a update on Mario & Sonic Olympic Games at the beginning of next week so please check back for that.  I’m pretty sure it will be better then Mario Party which was a complete dud.  We are also waiting for our rental store to get in Mario Galaxy so we can check that out before buying.

What do you all think on the Mario releases for the Wii?  Bad or good?

YAY my Xbox is broke once again

Well this is the second time that my XBOX has been sent into Microsoft Repair Center to get fixed.  The first time was a few weeks after launch when I got the dreaded three red lights.  Well the other day I’m getting ready to start up a game of Tiger Woods 08 and when I’m picking my golfer, the screen goes black with a bunch of white dots and lines.

After trying different cables, different tv’s etc, I call Microsoft and I hear the dreaded your xbox is not under warranty anymore, it will be $99 and 3-5 weeks to fix it.  Well I really have no choice, so I give them my credit card and here I am waiting 3-5 weeks.

I need a new game, so I think I’ll pick up Orange Box for pc this weekend and play it until my xbox gets back.

Madden 2008 XBOX 360 Review

Yeah I’m a little late getting this review out, but I’ve been pretty busy lately and playing Madden of course lol.  I’m 4 games into my dynasty and I’m loving it so far.  I’m the SanFrancisco 49ers (read my 49ers blog here) and Frank Gore is a beast on the game to go along with Alex Smith and Patrick Willis the new linebacker that hurts atleast one player a game lol.

Online play is pretty fun as well.  I have only played online twice, I’m 2-0 after beating a friend both times.  One thing just like in NCAA that they need to change is how many turnovers there are a game.  In real life, your QB won’t throw 4 INT’s a game and have 3 fumbles as well.  Other then that I really like the gameplay, the controls, and it has a really good fun factor.  Definately a game where you need to grab a 12 pack (if you are of age :) ) and invite some buddies over for a couple games.

I’ll give Madden 2008 a 9/10 this year.  Look for my review of the new Tiger Woods 2008 next week as I should be receiving that later this week.

NCAA 08 XBOX 360 Review

I have been playing NCAA 08 on XBOX 360 since last Tuesday and wow is all I can say!  The game is pretty good overall and I’m just now getting the hang of online play.  Damn lag keeps messing me up it seems like.

Overall the game is pretty good.  The new gang tackling, hitstick, and animations are pretty nice.  I also like the fact that you can record certain plays and keep them on your harddrive to show all your buddies.  You can only save 5 videos so make sure you save the good ones!  You can also save pictures from the replays as well so that is pretty cool.

A few things I think they could have made better was having the uniforms not be so shiny.  C’mon this is football, not a dance recital!  Wide open receivers still dropping passes which sucks, that should happen maybe once a game not 3-5 times.  The new playbook makes it take longer to find your play, but I am getting used to it.

Overall I’d give the game a 8.5 out of 10.  What are your thought on the game? Even if you don’t have it for XBOX 360, let us know what you think!

NCAA 08 Demo Review for XBOX 360

Wow! That is what I’ll say about the NCAA 08 Demo on XBOX 360 so far.  I have only had a chance to play a few games but so far I’m loving it!  Sure we don’t get to see everything yet, but we do get to play the game and that is what a demo is all about.  I’ve heard rumors that this is the demo that IGN and a few other places were able to play a few months ago so I’m hoping they have made some minor changes for the final version that comes out on Tuesday.

I love the new hit stick! Watch out when you try to go high though, alot of the running backs will blow by your tackle but the lower hit stick is awesome and the players almost do flips!  Another thing I have liked so far is not as many dropped passes like in NCAA Football 07.  Hopefully it will be the same way during online play.

The players also aren’t as big and “roid like” as in 07.  They are scaled back some, and I think that makes them look like they are running slower then last year like some people are complaining about.  I have only had one instance where I was ran down from behind so far on a WR.  But they do appear to be running a little slower but that could also just be due to it being a demo.

I hope to pick up the Strategy guide this afternoon/evening in my local walmart gets it in and will hopefully have more to talk about then!

Sony to cut Playstation3 price by $100

If you have been waiting for a price drop on the Playstation 3, well the time has come!  Sony announced last night that they have dropped the price for th 60GB PS3 console to $500 + tax.  You will be saving $100 from the previous price.

Sony also announced that they will be coming out with a 80GB PS3 in August and that will cost ya $600.  I don’t think many people are filling up there 60GB at this time so I don’t see why there is a need for a 80GB version.

Do you plan on purchasing one now with the price drop?

Why did I wait so long to buy XBOX Live?

I finally broke down and bought XBOX Live for one year this past weekend and so far so good!  I have enjoyed playing MLB Baseball 2k7 and Fear so far.  I will be trying out NCAA Football 07 in the next few days as I get geared up for NCAA Football 2008 that will be coming out next month.  Gotta remember how to play it lol!

One thing I wish was for a nice keyboard/mouse setup for FPS games that I could use when playing on Live!  I hate whole aiming on FPS games on the consoles but had to try out a FPS online so I rented Fear anyways.

My gamertag is cubsin2045 if you would like to add me.

New Virtual Console games for the Wii

There are four new VC games for the Nintendo Wii today.  Zelda II which all the Zelda fans have been waiting for is the highlight of this weeks game.  Go buy Zelda II and go back in time and beat it just like on the old NES!

  • Milon’s Secret Castle (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points): Though it’s not much of a secret castle if the title gives it away, it certainly is one that adheres to video game tradition. Expect to rescue a princess and several valuable items — musical instruments in this case — within its recesses.
  • ToeJam & Earl in Panic on Funkotron (Genesis, 1-2 players, 800 Wii Points): Video game tradition is given the boot here, with amusingly mismatched aliens, Toejam & Earl, saving their planet by ridding it of a human scourge.
  • Dead Moon (TurboGrafx16, 1 player, 600 Wii Points): Alright, now we’re back to protecting the Earth from alien invasion. It’s why we have side-scrolling shooters like this one.
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES, 1 player, 500 Wii Points): Everyone’s favorite pointy-eared protagonist returns to Hyrule in the Virtual Console’s 100th release. Aid Link in his battle against the forces of evil, Zelda’s newfound narcoleptic tendencies and an endless wave of best Zelda ever / worst Zelda ever controversy.

TMNT for XBOX 360 Review

I finally got around to renting Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for the XBOX 360 last week and overall I thought it was pretty good.  Sure it isn’t too hard to beat, and doesn’t take that long but it is made for the younger generation so you gotta keep them happy!

The one button, or combo button attacks are all easy to do when you are attacking your opponents.  One thing I would have licked is more attacks instead of the same thing over and over.  The special moves for each turtle were nice, but there could have been more.

I enjoyed running around doiing flips over everything rather then the actual fights.  It was pretty fun but I would only rent the game since you can beat it pretty easily and quickly.

Give it a shot and rent it from GameFly!

Firmware 1.80 to include 1080p upscaling for games and movies

Sony has officially unveiled plans for PS3 firmware 1.80. This update looks to be the most significant yet. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect:

  • Full 1080p upscaling for DVDs, PS2 and PS1 games. With upscaling, there’s no need to throw away your old DVDs and PlayStation 2 games. The content will be converted to resolutions as high as 1080p, and will breathe new visual life into your old discs. DVD movies can only be upconverted using an HDMI connection.
  • PSP Remote Play via internet. Although this feature was supposedly included in a previous update, many were unable to have it properly run. This hopefully corrected feature will allow PSP users to watch and listen to content stored on the PS3 from any wi-fi connection in the world. PSP firmware 3.50 will be required.
  • DLNA media center connectivity. Media content stored on DLNA-enabled PCs and laptops can be shared and viewed on PS3 systems.
  • Print photos with Epson printers. Images stored on the PS3 hard drive can be printed using compatible printers.

This update hits European PS3s on May 24th. A worldwide release should arrive on or near that date.

We have three new PSP games this week. You’ll probably be most interested in Legend of the Dragon, but who can resist Ultimate Board Game Collection? It contains 20 classics, including chess, Chinese checkers, backgammon, concentration, etc. Or maybe you’d enjoy hanging out with the fairies from Winx Club?
