New Resistance Modes and Maps Coming

ResistanceResistance was a great launch title for the Playstation3, and now gamers will be able to download some updates for the game this month, and then again in May!  How about more game modes and some new maps?  Sounds good to me!

This month sometime, they will be releasing some new game modes.   The two new gameplay modes are “Team Conversion” and “Assault”.

  • Team Conversion: like Conversion, but with a team. Neat?
  • Assault: essentially, both teams have a base they need to defend and they also have a set of defense nodes and satellite nodes that, if destroyed, weaken the “defenses” of their main base. We guess that means the “health bar” for the main base would decrease. Overtaken satellite nodes become neutral — a spawning point for both teams. Dangerous!
  • What’s in store for May? Well, how does worldwide play sound to you? A nice addition, indeed. Also, the map pack will be made available for purchase and download within the game. Both maps are set in England: one in Westmorland, one in Camborn. The former is snowy and very open, the latter has both above ground and subterranean combat. These aren’t rehashed maps, either — they’ve brand new and specifically designed for multiplayer.

Mercenaries 2 hitting the XBOX360, PC, and PS2,

IGN.Com sat down with Pandemic senior producer Jonathan Zamkoff and asked him a ton of questions about the upcoming game Mercenaries 2.  He says even though the game will come out on XBOX360, PC, and PS2, only the PS2 will really look different since it will be using the Mercenaries 1 engine for gameplay.  Zamkoff does state that the overall gameplay will still be the same.

One new thing with the game will be co-op internet play on all versions of the game except for the PS2.    Mercenaries 2 is expected to hit store shelves in Fall of 2007.  We will have to wait and see how the development of the game goes and hopefully there won’t be any problems that would push the release date back.

Check out our new partner GameFly, where you can rent games and keep them for as long as you want!  Just pay a low monthly fee like $8.99 or take their free trial today!

Qbert and Fl0w and Ridge Racer demo to PS3 Online

If you were waiting for more classics too show up on the Playstation3 console this week you will only have to wait until tomorrow!  Old classic Qbert and Fl0w will be releasing for $7.99 and $4.99 tomorrow.  Also a nice demo of Ridge Racer will be available for download the same time.

I think I’m more excited about the Ridge Racer demo rather then Qbert and Fl0w which I never really played back in the day.   What do you all think?

Wii outsells both XBOX360 and PS3 in January

Even with big shortages the Nintendo Wii outsold the XBOX360 and Playstation3 in January reports are saying.  The Wii sold 436,000 units, while XBOX360 came in with 294,000 sales, and the Playstation3 coming in with 244,000 units sold.

I can only expect this to happen the next 3-4 months as the Nintendo begins to hit the shelves on a more regular basis.  They are still selling like hotcakes and very hard to find.  One of my buddies was finally able to get one at our local Walmart yesterday, but still no extra controllers.

Wallstreet Investors still don’t like the PS3

The Playstation3 has never really been a hit with investors on WallStreet, and that could be because of the parent company Sony.   WallStreet has came out with another do not buy list and the Playstation3 is coming in at #2 on that list because of the high price, release problems, and the library of games.  They say once they start putting out more games on a regular basis the console will be better off.

Of course a brand new console won’t have has many games as a console that has been out for over a year.  Every console has release problems no matter how you look at it.  Give the PS3 some time, and I’m sure it will be a great console just like the XBOX360.
